LAF Weekly Announcements

We look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday morning!  Hope that everyone has had a great week so far...Announcements below!

In God's Grace,
Susan, Wes, Maila & David

DEVOTIONAL:
Wes and I spent this past weekend in the mountains of TN with friends.  We felt somewhat disconnected with no cell phone service but I commented to those we were with that somehow I felt closer to God by being in the still of such a quiet and beautiful place...

The mountain peaks belong to [the Lord]. Psalm 95:4 (NIV)
I have always loved the mountains. Whether in a long, low, ridge like the Ozarks of Arkansas or in dramatic, pyramid-like peaks as in the Alps in Switzerland, the majesty and mystery of mountains speak to my soul. However, when I moved to the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, I was afraid that seeing them day after day would cause me to lose my appreciation for their grandeur. I was afraid I would come to take them for granted.

But I am discovering that my wonder and appreciation grow each day. I see the same mountain through my window every day, but it never looks the same twice. One day the top is lost in the clouds. The next day the summit looms over the mists below. One day it looks green from all the trees on its slope. But when the atmosphere changes, the mountain appears to be a soft shade of blue.

In much the same way, I find that the more I spend time with God through prayer, Bible study, and worship, the more wonderful God seems to me. The more time I spend with God, the less I take God for granted. The more time I spend in God's presence, the more I appreciate the many manifestations of God's majesty.  AMEN.
CURRICULUM:
This week the Easom's will continue our study on "Giving Good Gifts" by discussing Chapter 7 of the book - The Triumph of Timshel.  Please join us as we continue our series on The Spiritual Journey of Parenthood.  Thank you in advance to the "Snack-Bringers" (not sure who is bringing this week).

OUTREACH:
This month we will be raising money to support the Georgia orphanage where we sponsor two orphans.  They are in desperate need of money to buy shoes for the children and have asked our class to donate $300. Our class has already raised $42.00 through the raffle held at the Tailgate party.  To raise the remaining money, we will be organizing a consignment drive.  Rhubarb and Custard had agreed to give us %50 percent of the proceeds rather that the usual %40!  Please e-mail Elizabeth Wade if you have any maternity or children's clothes you would like to consign.  On October 1, we will have a speaker talk to us about the mission work at the orphanage and we will write letters to the children.

SOCIAL:
Thank you so much to the Fess' for hosting the LAF Annual Tailgate Party last weekend.  Everyone had a great time!

Please mark your calendars for a Halloween costume party at the Kelly's home on Sunday, October 30th at 4:00 pm.  Bring the whole family as we will have a pumpkin carving contest for the adults and a pumpkin decorating station for the children.  An evite will be sent out in a few weeks.

Do you love to decorate for the holidays?  Want to showcase your house for Christmas?  Well, then hosting the Christmas party is the perfect answer!  We are still looking for volunteers to host the party on Saturday, December 10th.  Please contact Natalia or Elizabeth if you are interested in hosting this special event.
